Reala Ace (courtesy of Cobalt Image)

Ever since Fujifilm announced the new filmsim ‘Reala Ace’ debuting on the GFX 100SII, the entire community has been praying for a kaizen update that would see this profile ported to previous camera models. A degree of realism needs applied here. I think it is unfair to expect Fujifilm to port this recent filmsim to all previous camera models… but surely relatively new and expensive flagships such as the XH2S deserves this consideration!?

Well… here we are in 2024 with still no other camera other than the GFX100SII with this filmsim… till now.

Cobalt Image have just recently updated their Fuji Digital Pack to including the Reala Ace profile. Just in case you’ve been living under a rock, Cobalt aims to bring profiles from many different camera makers and models and have them applicable to almost any camera model of your choice. This means you can shoot Canon colour profiles on your Nikon, or have Leica looks on your Fuji etc.
I’ve talked about this before here on my blog when I mention how I used Fuji’s Nostalgic Neg (and Classic Neg) on my Pentax 645D camera.

There is one other really neat trick I like about Cobalt Image products. The ‘presets’ are applied as ‘Profiles’, meaning you can adjust the intensity of the base profile to your liking, unlike Camera Matching profiles which remain at a fixed amount. I often enjoy the look of classicNEG but find its approach a little heavy handed at times and being able to dial back that intensity even 10-15% can make a huge difference to the outcome (and a far quicker approach than tinkering elsewhere).

Anyway, if you’re like me and are sick and tired of waiting for Fuji to give us Reala Ace, Cobalt Image has you covered.

Here’s a very rough side by side comparison. The RAW files have been edited but each have the same changes applied throughout, so WB, exposure, contrast etc are all the same for all the files, only the profile remains changed. Each profile when reduced falls back to something close to the Cobalt Modular profile (hence why it is included).

Thanks for looking. Get Cobalt here.

PS I am in no way affiliated with Cobalt Image, I have purchased all packs with my own money, I just happen to think they are onto a good thing and deserve support.
